Below you’ll find all the information about working at Camp Pontiac this summer.

The relationships you will develop with our campers and your fellow staff members will make your summer an unforgettable experience!

Positions at Camp

General Counselor: Spends all day and evening and meals with their bunk campers, supervising and playing.
Specialty Counselor: Should have a high level of expertise and experience in their activity area. Spends most of day in their particular specialty area and assists in the bunk during non-activity period times of day and evening. Eats meals with group’s campers.
Group Leader (GL): Oversees counselors and campers in one Division. Keeps in contact with parents.
Assistant Group Leader: Helps and replaces (on GL day off) a GL.
Program Head: Should have a vast experience in their specialty area. Should be able to supervise and implement the activity and the specialists who work within that activity. Adult staff will also work in 6pm - 8pm in either our Canteen or Ice Cream Shoppe
Girls On Boys Side (GOB): Female counselors that work with Braves-Inters on Boys Side during day, meals and Evening Activity but sleep on Girls Side.
Nurse: Works in either our boys or girls Health Center. Works alongside other nurses and physicians. Must have a qualification in nursing or equivalent.

STAFF ARRIVAL DATES

Waterfront / Outdoor Adventure Staff: Sunday, June 10th, 2018 We will schedule a pickup from JFK airport at 6pm. If you are driving please arrive no earlier than 6pm.
All International Counselors: Sunday, June 10th, 2018. We will schedule a pickup from JFK airport at 6pm. If you are driving please arrive no earlier than 6pm.
All new American and out of town staff: Thursday, June 14th, 2018. We will schedule a pickup from LaGuardia airport at 6pm. If you are driving please arrive no earlier than 6pm.
All Group Leaders and Program Heads: Friday, June 15th by 6pm.
All other staff: Friday, June 15th by 6pm.
STAFF DEPARTURE DATE: Saturday, August 11, 2018. We will provide transport to LaGuardia airport. Your flight should depart no earlier than 6PM that day.

DAYS AND TIME OFF

On a typical day you will get one period off (out of six). During your off periods, you will have use of all courts and fields (when available), waterfront (but only if lifeguards are available and on-duty), Canteen, counselor lounge, ice cream parlor (when open) and on-camp movie theater (when available). Staff are on duty and are responsible for campers four nights per week; the other three nights, staff are free to enjoy their evening on or off camp. There is a camp curfew each evening.

Each staff member gets one day off per week during weeks 2 through 6; your day off will be determined during Staff Orientation. Places to visit on days off include;

New York City - Camp is approx. 2 hours north of the city and we can arrange transportation to the nearest train station which will take you to Grand Central Station in Midtown Manhattan.

Boston, MA - Approx. 2.5 hours from Boston and we have frequent scheduled bus trips for staff at a nominal fee.

Great Barrington - A small boutique town in Massachusetts where you’ll find good eats and Berkshire charm 30 mins from camp.

Hudson, NY - Our closest city is just 30 mins drive from camp. Here you’ll find good food and art galleries along with our closest grocery stores & Walmart.

Albany, NY - The capital city of New York State is just an hour’s drive from camp. It offers a large shopping mall.

SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE

8:00am: Revellie - Wake-up
8:20am: Line-up (announcements) Raise the flag.
8:30am: Breakfast
9:15am: Clean Up
10:00am - 1:00pm Three morning activities with AM snack.
1:00pm: Lunch
1:45pm: Rest Hour or extra athletic instruction.
2:30pm-4:30pm: Two afternoon activities with PM snack
4:30pm: General Swim through grade 6 – Optional general swim or extra sports above 6th grade
5:15pm: Shower Hour - Clean up for dinner
6:00pm: Line-up (announcements) Lower the flag
6:15pm: Dinner
6:45pm: Free Play
7:30pm: Evening activity and canteen
9:00pm - 11:45pm: Back to cabins - lights out (age dependent)
